An engaged life, question-driven

David Brooks is a syndicated columnist for the New York Times. Brooks is that rare bird-- a public intellectual --and his commentaries are always thought provoking. [caption id="attachment_6736" align="aligncenter" width="150" caption="David Brooks (credit: Wikipedia)"][/caption] One particularly insightful piece concerned living an engaged, question-driven life and was written while traveling in East Africa. The essence of his article was that consistently asking questions-- even ones that don't lead to a correct answer --was essential for life-long curiosity and involvement in the world. Brooks concluded by quoting the late Richard Holbrooke on pursuing an engaged, question-driven life: "Know something about something. Don’t just present your wonderful self to the world. Constantly amass knowledge and offer it around." That big picture approach-- almost ecological --is particularly relevant today with the myriad of interconnected issues requiring a mix of perspectives for resolution. We hope in our own tiny way, this online journal is providing a bit of this POV and may be helpful to others. In any event, David Brooks is always a good read. Riled Up
