"Bobo's who stuck with oil"

I never followed the TV program Cheers but I know it was popular. Ted Danson still appears on stage but he is also a dedicated ocean activist and founded the marine conservation organization, Oceana. He was interviewed on the Diana Rehm Show and it is a broadcast that everyone should tune in. [caption id="attachment_4584" align="aligncenter" width="314" caption="Endangered Northern Right Whale photo credit: Oceana.org"][/caption] One of the comments Danson made in the impressive radio conversation was that less than 1% of all money donated to USA conservation organizations goes towards ocean and marine projects. That's amazing considering all the goods, services, and benefits we realize from the seas. That level of financial support for the ocean conservation will definitely need to grow if we ever expect to meet the challenges that Danson presents in his new book-- Oceana: Our Endangered Oceans and What We Can Do To Save Them. The interview concluded with a discussion of oil and gas leasing/drilling policies along our coastlines and the development of alternatives to imported energy. As many other nations from Western Europe to China move aggressively to find and commercialize energy alternatives, we appear stalled or to be moving in the opposite direction here in the USA. As Danson concluded: "in 20 years we may be seen as the Bobo's who stuck with oil"! WHB
