Photographic Light Painting

Light-painting is a photographic technique that creates eerily beautiful images by using a flashlight, candle, or some other light source to highlight a subject during a long exposure, typically at night.

Nature can produce the same effect if you're in the right place at the right time. NASA's Terra satellite passed over the Lesser Antilles captured an early morning image of sun-glint on the ocean in front of the islands with the still dark island's wakes behind. From bottom to top through the islands of Grenada, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Fort-de-France, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Montserrat, Antigua, and Barbuda are visible.

Terra's natural 'light painting' could easily hang on any abstract art gallery wall.
