World Turtle Day

I missed it but World Turtle Day was last month. I would have held a celebration of some sort if I'd known. Turtles are special creatures and anything that helps them out and brings attention to their environmental situation is worthy and cool in my book. The non-profit group-- American Tortoise Rescue --organized the annual event that has run for 20 years. [caption id="attachment_4507" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="World Turtle Day credit: American Tortoise Rescue"][/caption] As Riled Up has noted before, turtles are being environmentally insulted by many threats: habitat destruction, illegal wildlife trafficking, egg collection on nesting beaches, drowning in fishing nets, and other sorts of challenges. They outlived the dinosaurs but the may not survive us.
