A Monster of the Deep is Filmed

A Monster of the Deep is Filmed

Giant Squid from an 1880 illustration (credit: public domain)

A giant creature Jules Verne once called a "formidable monster" was spotted moving in the waters of a bay along the coast of central Japan. Local people flocked to view the giant squid (Architeuthis dux) while television crews captured remarkable video of the large, red creature. Giant squid are rarely seen alive since they inhabit the great ocean depths. Occasionally one if found dead and washed-up onto a beach. This young squid was nudged out of the Japanese bay by boats so it could return to the open waters. WHB
