Have you ever wondered what all that 'Big Data' being collected on yourself and other subjects is so important? Does data gathering and analysis make you feel more comfortable, more successful, or more distressed? Susan Etlinger tries to make some sense of a world awash in data. She is a business and society management consultant focusing on the implications of artificial intelligence (AI), technology ethics and Big Data. In a TED conference presentation Etlinger explains why, as more and more data is gathered, we need to deepen critical thinking skills but she says: it's hard to move beyond counting things to really understanding them.
