It's useful to reflect on creative ideas from the past and see how they have been adopted, or not, in the present or could be in the future. Bob Hopkins proposes an energy transition where we prepare for lives independent of fossil fuels. Hopkins suggests adopting concepts from the science of ecological resilience that could be applied by people and communities as they move towards energy independent. His original ideas were presented to an TED conference in 2009:

and were updated by more recently by the Stockholm University Center for Resilience.
