China's Tidal River

Qiantang River, China (credit: Wikicommons)

China has ancient accounts of massive flooding and destruction from rivers like the Yellow and Yangtze. Floods destroyed entire farms and villages. The Qiantang River produces a tidal bore that can only be described as huge. One of the largest backward flows ever recorded occurred recently. A similar surge may have been the basis for some of the ancient Chinese flooding accounts.

It isn't advisable to stand along the waterfront when the river decides to surges as some drone footage demonstrates.
