Filming A Giant

Giant Squid from an 1880 illustration (credit: public domain)

A creature Jules Verne once called a "formidable monster" was spotted gently moving in the waters of a bay along the coast of central Japan. Local people flocked to view the young giant squid (Architeuthis dux) while  television crews captured remarkable video of the large, red creature. Giant squid are rarely seen alive as they live at great marine depths but occasionally one if found dead having been washed onto a beach. This squid was nudged out of the bay by boats so it could return to the open ocean. WHB
