The Kuril Islands are a volcanic Archipelago of more than fifty islands stretching more than 800 miles from Hokkaido in Japan to Kamchatka in the Russian Far East. They are some of the most remote islands in the world.  Their once abundant populations of marine mammals and birds are declining. According to Russian biologists, the culprit appears to be climate change that is impacting to the marine environment including fish populations.

An expedition to the Kurils was led by the Russian researchers and included a group of American drone pilots and video producers to film a documentary about the islands and the ongoing research there. Filmed by Renan Ozturk, From Kurils With Love had it virtual World Premiere at MountainFilm 2020 due to the pandemic. It was just officially released.

The Russian researchers and filmmakers hope the documentary will bring attention to these little known islands and the conservation of their remaining wildlife.
