Big discoveries about plants and their importance continue be uncovered. This is especially important for species facing extinction from habitat destruction, overgrazing, deforestation, and exploding human populations. Many plant species are being lost before we even know that they exist. A rare blue orchid was recently discovered on an Indonesian island with only 100 individuals counted and seen growing in a mountaintop rainforest.

The botanical researcher Ameenah Gurib from Mauritius focuses on the biodiversity of such humble plant rarities in a fascinating and urgent presentation to TED audience. WHB
