Archaeology From Space

Sarah Parcak, space archaeology (credit: YouTube/TED)

The archaeologist Sarah Parcak uses infrared and commercial space images to locate and identify lost cities and other ancient sites. Parcak has conducted research in Romania, Tunisia, and Egypt. In Italy her satellite mapping identified an ancient arena at Portus, its lighthouse, and a canal leading to Rome along the Tiber River. She has been mentioned by The Next List as one of the "innovators, visionaries, and agents of change who are mapping a course to the future with their new ideas".

Parcak explained some of her remote sensing discoveries to a TED audience.
