Ring of Fire

The late country singer Johnny Cash spoke metaphorically about love being a 'ring of fire' when he sang:
I fell into into the burning ring of fire
I fell down down down down into the deepest fire
And it burns burns burns burns, the ring of fire the ring of fire
The ring of fire
In a more geological context, NOAA along with the National Weather Service and the Tsunami Warning Centers applied 15 years of earthquake data to create a visualization to illustrate an actual Ring of Fire around the Pacific Ocean rim. The map records every earthquake from January 2001 to January 2016. Circle sizes represent the magnitude of the earthquakes in relation to each other while colors represents the depth of the quake. The animated map is particularly relevant considering a recent 6.9 magnitude tumbler that hit the Indonesian island of Lombok causing major damages and loss of life.
NASA has published a satellite map showing the deformation of Lombok created by the massive earthquake that hit the island.

Johnny Cash's words ring true metaphorically and geologically.
