Carmageddon

LA is always taking abuse from somewhere. In films like 2012 and Battle Los Angeles, my hometown was insulted by earthquakes that swallowed Santa Monica and alien robots that took over the downtown causing havoc. However, this is nothing compared to what is coming if a massive "carmageddon" descends upon the City of Angels when the I-405 freeway is closed for much needed repairs. [caption id="attachment_5216" align="aligncenter" width="639" caption="Los Angeles destroyed source: 2012 film "][/caption] I-405 is the major north-south artery of Los Angeles starting in San Diego and heading north to San Francisco. It bisects the city with the Santa Monica mountains in between the West Side, the San Fernando Valley, Hollywood, and Pasadena. The volume of traffic 24/7 going either way on the 405 on any given day is impressive to say the least. [caption id="attachment_5224" align="aligncenter" width="621" caption="I-405 corridor map of LA credit: CALTRANS"][/caption] LA's Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has advised residents to "stay at home, go on vacation, ride a bike, walk (What is he thinking? no one walks in LA) but do not get in your car and go anywhere near the West Side." It sounds like the battleground aliens are returning to continue their attack on the city. The LAPD might wish they were on vacation en mass as well.
