Mountaineer, explorer, and environmental writer Conrad Anker provides an update on the Khumbu Climbing Center in Nepal. The project's goal is to provide training to the Sherpas who assist trekkers and climbers who visit the high Himalaya to climb peaks including Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Mount Everest. Design and construction of the Center, in Phortse Nepal, was underwritten by the Alex Lowe Charitable Foundation in Montana. Construction materials had to be manually hauled to the construction site at over 12,000 feet. Anker returned to view the building's progress and opening. The Editors

I'm back in Phortse after a trek to Everest Base Camp. I'm humbled beyond words to see the progress over the past two years on the Khumbu Climbing Center. A big thanks all the volunteers and staff of KCC who made the progress happen. Wow!
