Spying on Animals for Conservation

Atlantic Puffins, Maine (credit: EXPLORE)

If you want to understand the daily lives of critters without disturbing them, EXPLORE is the perfect tool. Developed by the Audubon Society, EXPLORE offers the ability to choose the bird or animal of interest and check in on them in real time. The video camera silently observes the animal without disturbing them. Puffin Burrow is one example but many others exist. The video monitors provide important insight into animal behavior and provide information which can inform management plans.

Baby birds and other critters are cute but camera traps are now essential tools of conservation.
