The penguin lady

The always creative programmers at TED present ideas worth spreading. A recent conference in Boston highlighted the rescue of penguins in South Africa after an oil spill. The presentation illustrated animals being rescued through a team effort led by Dyan deNapoli, the Penguin Lady. It is an inspirational success model and worth spreading. Riled Up

Whale sightings

Gray whales were nearly hunted to extinction during the whaling days of the 19th and early 20th Centuries. Their recovery off the West Coast is a good thing and sightings are more common from a robust population now. Typically, whales are not seen swimming in rivers but a gray whale mother and her calf decided to swim up the the Klamath River in northern California anyway. Curious George, rescued

Most stories emerging from the Congo, Rwanda, and elsewhere in central Africa range from the sad to the dreadful. It is rare to hear of one that shows that compassion in such desperately poor and war torn regions particularly when it includes the animal neighbors that also live in these regions. World Turtle Day

I missed it but World Turtle Day was last month. I would have held a celebration of some sort if I'd known. Turtles are special creatures and anything that helps them out and brings attention to their environmental situation is worthy and cool in my book.
